The lap time that named a car
In 2007, Porsche's motorsport department in Weissach began work on a faster GT2.
The target
A Nissan GT-R had lapped the Nordschleife in around 7:27. That time became the project's code: 727.
The approach
Start from the GT2, add power, take out weight. Andreas Preuninger, who ran Porsche's GT cars at the time, has said it began as an unofficial project alongside the regular programme.
The result
Porsche reported a lap of 7:18 by test driver Timo Kluck, nine seconds inside the target. The car was presented to German dealers in Leipzig in May 2010.
The Turbo's width,
without the Turbo's weight
The body is the 911 Turbo's wide shell, with the rear seats taken out.
Outside
The bonnet, mirror housings and rear wing lip are carbon fibre. Together with a polycarbonate rear screen and rear side windows, they help bring the RS some 70 kg below the GT2. This car adds optional carbon-fibre front wings, painted in body colour. Against gloss black paint and black wheels, the yellow calipers of the ceramic brakes are what catch the eye.
Inside
Carbon-shelled bucket seats in black leather and Alcantara, with red seat belts. The car was specified without the Clubsport package, so there is no roll cage or harness behind the seats, and it keeps its climate control and Porsche navigation. A GT2 RS set up for the road.
